I just finished reading this delightful book and wanted to write a quick review to encourage others to read it. This book was so well written that it was a breeze to read. The book was informative and entertaining, which is hard to accomplish in a short historical work. I have been a resident in Oregon for over 15 years and cannot believe that I knew so little about such a fascinating, historical landmark in Oregon (shame on me!). I think anyone living in Oregon, traveling through the area, or just interested in history should read this book to gain a better appreciation of the story behind the "Crown of the Historic Columbia River Highway". My favorite part of the book is the way the author described the details of the building and accompanied the words with pictures that really brought the book to life. Comprehensive without being too "wordy"--very informative even for someone from the area. It is a terrific guide and history
for the Gorge traveler. Wonderful photos and commentary.
This book deals in concise maner how the Vista House came into being and how it was preserved in as it is today. It presents the history and the people involved from the past to the present in a clear and interesting fashion. Lots of fact and detail but not to many. Good balance.
